The fourth season focuses on the reign of Louis XIV from 1643 to 1701.
The series traces his childhood, the influence of Mazarin and his mother during his early years as well as the various wars that the king waged against the other European powers while visiting various emblematic places of his reign.
The series also highlights the weight of the loves of the Sun King on some of his political decisions, in particular the influence of Madame de Maintenon on the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685.
However, the series does not only focus on the History of France, as Bruno Solo explains: “Louis XIV is at the heart of our system, but the idea is not to talk only about Louis XIV. We talk just as much about William III of Orange, the great enemy of Louis XIV, Charles I and Charles II of England and Philip IV of Spain. We are trying to radiate throughout Europe."
